Response to "High Concept" Readings

1) http://www.writersstore.com/high-concept-defined-once-and-for-all
Requirement #1, another way to think about what makes a story original/unique is how a story can go against the conventional norms.http://www.absolutewrite.com/screenwriting/high_concept.htm In the examples he listed, most of the titles compare two subjects, such as Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice, Master and Commander, Kramer vs. Kramer. What makes it interesting is that it brings an idea of conflict in the title. Not necessarily between the two characters or ideas in the title, but when something is compared you know there is going to be two sides in the story where conflict of some sort will arise. It can also work with putting two opposing words together as well, such as The Virgin Suicides.  Putting an innocent word like virgin next to a taboo word such as suicide creates interest to the audience to see how these opposing forces conflict in the story.
